What cookies are
Small files a website stores on your device. Some are needed for the site to work. Others tell us how the site is being used.
What we use
Strictly necessary. Set by WordPress and by Cloudflare to keep the site running, secure and reasonably fast. These do not need your consent because the site cannot work without them.
Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people find useful and where they give up. It sets two cookies, _ga and _ga_GMC6GKKVFJ, which tell one visit from another, and it gives us totals such as pages viewed, roughly what part of the world visitors are in and what device they used. Google’s advertising features, Google signals and data sharing are switched off, and it is not linked to any adverts. It runs unless you turn it off. UK law allows analytics cookies like these without asking first, because they are only used for statistics to improve the site and you can object for free, below.
Our own visitor counter. It sets no cookies. It keeps daily totals on our server, and your browser only remembers something if you ask us not to count your visits. More in our privacy policy.
Fonts. Some pages load fonts from Google Fonts. Your browser fetches them from Google, which sees your IP address to send them. No cookie is set.
We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not let anyone else advertise to you based on your visit here.
Your choice
If you would rather Google Analytics did not run, turn off Google Analytics. Your choice is remembered in this browser, Google’s cookies are deleted, and nothing changes about what you can do on the site. We also honour the Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control settings. If you chose “Necessary only” on our old cookie banner, Google Analytics stays off for you.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block the strictly necessary ones, parts of the site may stop working.
More detail
For what we do with the information itself, see our privacy policy. Any questions, email [email protected].
